The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brings you in. We will talk about what has been going on in your life, what feels important to you, and what you hope to get out of therapy.
Your therapist may ask some questions about your background, current challenges, and any relevant history to get a fuller picture of your experience, so we can support you in a way that fits your needs and begin shaping goals together. You can share at a pace that feels comfortable for you, there is space for both conversation and questions.
We will also talk about how we work, answer any questions you have, and begin identifying what support might look like moving forward. Many clients leave the first session with a clearer sense of direction and what the process can offer.
What the process can look like:
Getting to know you → Building understanding of patterns and challenges → Setting goals together → Practicing new skills and perspectives → Ongoing reflection and adjustment
Our therapists are committed to ongoing training, consultation, and self-reflective practice. We stay connected to current research in evidence-based practices and trauma-informed modalities.
Just as we ask clients to move at a pace that honors their nervous systems, we ask the same of ourselves. We engage in:
Regular supervision and peer consultation
Continuing education and specialty trainings
Somatic, reflective, and grounding practices
Ethical and professional guidelines, and community accountability
A culture of humility, curiosity, and ongoing learning
We believe that therapists can only take clients as far as they are willing to go themselves, so we prioritize our own growth, regulation, and integrity.
